circa 1930
Since opening night in 1925, until it closed in the 1970’s, the Simon Theatre provided this community with a splendid setting for theatrical performances, vaudeville acts, ballroom dances, special events and movies. For a long time, it was a special place in many lives.
It was built by the James Simon family of Brenham and designed by renowned Houston architect Alfred C. Finn. In the mid-1930’s, it was purchased by Will Stuckert. The Stuckert family owned and operated the Simon during the glory years of Hollywood, from the ‘30s all the way through the ‘70s. Sadly, after that, years of neglect allowed the building to crumble and decay. Now a group has been formed to save the building and turn it into an economic plus for Brenham.
